Cheat Sheet - Strategies of Lessons 7-12

Table 1: Strategies already inside Lessons 7–12. WHERE each one lives is your team's job to find in the Strategy Hunt.

Strategy What it is Use it when…
Play-based hook Learners play with the idea before any teaching

opening any new concept

energy is low

Rapid voting / polling Everyone commits to an answer in seconds (cards, hands, corners) you need 100% participation or want misconceptions to surface
Pair brainstorm Two heads generate before any theory lands

warming up creativity

low-stakes idea volume

Worked example A completed, annotated sample studied before independent tries the skill is new and error-prone
Think-pair-share Solo think, pair talk, then the room you want rehearsed, confident answers
Role-play Learners act out the system's decisions the process is invisible or abstract
Case discussion A concrete scenario anchors an ethics or judgement debate the topic has no single right answer
Ethical Matrix routine A structured grid: stakeholders × values, filled before designing decisions affect people differently
Iterative refinement Draft, test, revise, more than once, against visible criteria quality comes from cycles, not first tries
Red-blue debate

Two sides argue a scenario

being convinced is allowed

you want critique and persuasion without it feeling personal
Retrieval quiz Short low-stakes recall of prior learning starting a lesson that builds on the last one
Alignment check Learners test their product against stated values or criteria closing a make-activity with self-assessment

Table 2: Strategies NOT in the lessons (yet). Add them where they fit. The workshop itself runs several of these today.

Strategy What it is Steal it for…
Ice-cream scoop 🍨 Pairs share (scoop 1), snowball into the team (scoop 2), one polished share to the room (scoop 3)

any share-out

nobody speaks to the class cold

Snowball Pairs merge into fours, fours into eights, refining the answer at each step

building consensus

surfacing best ideas

Jigsaw Each team masters one piece, then regroups to teach the others splitting big content, e.g. each group takes one GenAI risk
Peer instruction Vote, convince your neighbour, revote misconception-heavy questions
Minute paper 60 seconds of writing: 'the muddiest point' or 'one thing I learned' closing any lesson with visible evidence of learning
Carousel critique

Group products rotate

each group rates on criteria and corrects in ink

a final-say group totals and closes

any group product

used in Session 3 today

Leaderboard / team points Light competition with visible, low-stakes scoring

energising practice and logistics

used all day today

Exit ticket One question answered on the way out the door deciding what to reteach tomorrow

Keep the Reference, Strategy Toolkit (All 12 Lessons) sheet for planning across the whole curriculum after the workshop.
